Your honor

Your honor – Jun. 17, 2004 is my column for today.

Meanwhile, in ABS-CBNNEWS.COM, TODAY newspaper’s first editorial is challenging and wise:

When Congress is not in session, it is strongly arguable that Congress does not exist except as a building, and its members are legally incapacitated to do anything pertaining to the legislative department under Article 6 of the Constitution.

Also in ABS-CBNNEWS.COM, columnist Dan Mariano points out two interesting things: 1. the opposition can’t round up enough people to march on the streets; 2. the comments of retired Justice Cecilia Munoz Palma, former president of the 1987 Constitutional Commission. Justice Palma has always spoken out without fear on favor on pending constitutional questions.

  1. Yes, I’m enjoying it this time around. When I got it first in Nov. 1986 I put it aside because I found the prose inelegant. Now it’s the tidbits of information that I found exciting. My mother’s a Cebuana and my father’s a Negrense. My grandfather (1896-1987) was into politics most his life, and my father too. So I can relate to the personalities in the book; even your great, and I mean the opposite of ordinary, Granddad.
Thanks for the heads-up about the book that was gathering dust in my storage.

  2. Many, many thanks for your kind words. You have the original edition of the book. It was republished for Romero’s centennary with a green cover. Many National Bookstores still have copies of the 2nd edition. I hope you enjoy reading the book.

  3. I got that book Not So Long Ago. If there’s still an Alemar in Metro Manila, perhaps they still have copies. I got mine from the sale section of Alemar-Cebu a decade or so ago. Alemar has since closed. I’ll reread the whole thing then.

    More power.
