We may vigorously disagree more often than not, but that we continue to exchange views and learn from each other, offers up the prospect of our all being part of the solution and not the problem.

    hayy naku, so ang magiting na si ramrod na okay at heroic pakinggan ay iiwan na rin officially ang pagiging Pinoy. what a disappointment, man.

    how can one talk so nobly about Pilpinas gayong iiwan mo rin pala ito? walk your talk eh? like most intellectuals, you are walking out as well while engaging in supposedly in patriotic talk about the motherland. how so very convenient and safe.

  4. gossips, rumors, and vague innuendos being peddled by the usual loose cannons in the media world again. anything from any source, without reality check, is treated as “news”. constant repetition by the purveyors to the gullible gives the conjectures a life of its own, and to uncritical simple minds becomes “truth”.

    i’m no fan of palparan, but these wild speculations against him must be taken for what they are – speculations absent viable evidence to substantiate them. in the philippine media world, anything goes and anything gets publicized so long as it fits the media’s agenda. even the mundane personal activities of a plunderer president, and his son’s movieland’s heroics are “news”. pathetic!

There are those who would like to pretend to be great intellectuals, and they spend their whole life convincing themselves and actually getting pleased with hearing themselves talk but never once did anything for their fellow man, never achieved anything worthwhile. A pity, the days pass by and death creeps closer and closer, the realization that it was a life lived for oneself and in vain.

    Interesting piece. Dirty Harry (Duterte) meets the Butcher (Palparan). The ex-general is known for extra judicial killings in his area of influence is now a consultant to the Congressman Nograles. Davao broadcaster Ferdie Lintuan who was vocal against Congressman Nograles was gunned down.

    Mayor Rodrigo Duterte initially offered half a million pesos as reward money who can provide information leading to the capture of the assailant. Not to be outdone, Congressman Prospero Nograles like a Pontius Pilate raised another half a million pesos.

    It is pure lunacy to get into the middle of local political war and try your luck for a million pesos, a bang for the new year.

  10. HAPPY NEW YEAR, EVERYONE!Who says we have a damaged culture. We may fail in our efforts to do better.We may disagree with anyone’s idea, ideologies,political leanings, opinions, and what have you. But it so amazing, judging from greetings of peace and filicitacion which most of you have written so sincerely in this thread and the genuine apology for a realized misgivings, BIG FAITH is not lost in every Filipinos heart.

    Ramrod, I agree entirely to you that the Filipinos are in a sticky situation of facing not just one but a number of bankrupt organism. A reality which some of us may find hard or may choose not to accept.

    Joy and Peace in your hearts this Season and always.

    Why am I being investigated?

    Why not investigate those officers who have been accused of taking part in the cheating that happened during the last elections?

    Why not investigate those officers who are causing demoralization of their troops because they allowed themselves to be misused by those in power?

    Why not investigate those officers who remain silent, rather than defend our troops and the Marine Corps itself when we are accused unfairly?

    What happened to our values and virtues enshrined in our Marine motto of KARANGALAN, KATUNGKULAN, KABAYANIHAN?

    We have sworn a solemn oath to defend our democracy. What should we do when corrupt politicians undermine the credibility of our electoral system and worse, misuse the military to win at all cost?

    We are here to defend our country and protect the sovereign will of our people, not to be tools of corrupt politicians!

    I love the Marine Corps. I have served it with honor. I would rather resign my post than follow orders against my code and my conscience. I would rather resign than remain silent and allow evil things to happen.

    I am a MARINE. I have to talk straight, even bluntly.

    I ask my fellow Marines, officers and men in the AFP to remember our sworn duty to our country and people..”

    and wag their tails no end, living on scraps. Why? Can’t afford a resthouse in Tagaytay?

    i always thought chihuahuas were mexicans….

    Care
    Long-coated Chihuahuas need daily brushing, Short-coated Chihuahuas should be brushed occasionally with a soft-bristle brush or wiped with a soft cloth. Needs cuting claws and monthly grooming.
    Life span is of 11 to 18 years.

    Steve Jobs and Steve Wozniak, the duo who began Apple Computer in 1976, are among the most well-known revolutionaries of the computing age. Their invention of the first true personal computer changed people’s ideas of what a computer could look like and what it could do for them to make their lives easier and their work more efficient. Apple continues to be one of the best-known and most popular brands of personal computing devices in the world.

    Steven Paul Jobs was born on Feb. 24, 1955, in San Francisco and adopted as an infant by a couple who raised him in Los Altos, Calif. He entered Reed College in Portland, Ore., in 1972 but dropped out after one semester to work for Atari, a maker of video games. He had become very interested in the emerging world of personal computing while still in high school, when he had begun attending lectures at Hewlett-Packard Co. where he met and befriended Wozniak.

    Stephen Gary Wozniak was born on Aug. 11, 1959, in San Jose, Calif. He left the University of California at Berkeley before he finished his degree, to go to work for Hewlett-Packard. He and Jobs were very involved with a local organization called the Homebrew Computer Club where they discussed and experimented with hardware and software, including video games. It became clear to them that the personal computing era was about to heat up significantly.

    Jobs became bent on starting a company of his own to build computers for individuals, and he convinced Wozniak to start it with him. They sold some of their prized belongings—for Jobs, a Volkswagen minibus and for Wozniak, a programmable HP calculator—to raise $1300 to launch the enterprise. They built their first machines in Jobs’ family garage in 1976.

  17. THE FILIPINO WILL PREVAIL

    In behalf of my brothers, I would like to apologize to all the readers in this blog and perhaps to everybody in the country for that matter. It is not our intention to discredit the whole military profession or institution in any way. This apparent public display of dirty laundry is not an expression of despise to the AFP but a genuine attempt to expose the truth and hopefully will lead to much needed reforms. For how can you clean your house if you just sweep the dirt underneath your rug?
    Our AFP has a rich tradition of honor, valor, and patriotism. OUR military is just the reflection of OUR own pride, OUR strength, and OUR resolve as a people. The military is not an independent, separate entity from the people, its lifeblood is the people, the teeming masses that feed its numbers its able-bodied youth. Yes, we sacrifice our youth at a very early age of 17, these kids are literally hammered, molded into men who would without any hesitation take the bullets that were meant for us. Who among us here cannot deny the freedoms and the carefreeness of this age that they gladly turned their backs on?
    You cannot reform the AFP without OUR government’s participation, because the AFP takes its orders from a political source, even decisions on promotions come from a political body, this fact alone shows that the military cannot be APOLYTICAL. So I urged one and all not to be dismayed by the present situation but take heart that the men in uniform have acted on their conscience, that they will no longer be willing tools of oppression, brutality, and deceit. We bear witness to a nation asserting its right to better itself, we should be proud of ourselves and fight on…

  23. no one should be so presumptuous as to “apologize” for the entire afp for the acts of a few misfits who don’t know their place in society. the afp, as an organization, has not done anything disgraceful to require an apology. i don’t think the chain of command has given anyone the authority to apologize for it.

    i question the motive for making such an unauthorized “apology” because it could put the entire organization in a bad light as though it is admitting to a wrongdoing and apologizing for it.

  25. i agree with you, titanium. i, for one, see it as nothing more than a puny attempt to discredit the whole armed forces. i still believe that the great majority of our soldiers are apolitical, while in the active service which, i think, is the rightful attitude.

    there are ways to ferret out and bring lawless elements in soldier’s clothing to justice. there’s no human substitute for the rule of law, except for those who believe in the rule of force. i shudder to think that our armed forces are infested with anti-democratic ideologues who mouth social evils (with no concrete solutions offered) to foist their own brand of governance.

  26. i think the best way to identify the BEST of all the presidents we had is through an informed, critical analysis and comparison of each of their record of achievements and shortcomings, as well as personal character and integrity. i think a poll of uninformed, or partially informed respondents will just be another “popularity” contest, not at all reflective of reality. that would be a futile, unproductive and wasteful exercise.

    history is open to everyone. each act of a president is part of recorded history. let it speak for itself, and let not partisan revisionists dictate what is history.

  29. one concern with any poll on the greatest Pinoy president is that corruption (or the perceived corruption) negates whatever positive (if any) achievement he/she made

    maybe people from cause-oriented groups who have the propensity to mouth motherhood statements ought to skip the poll. sorry to say but i doubt if they can, to borrow from bencard, engage in “an informed, critical analysis and comparison of each of their record of achievements and shortcomings”

    lets take the example of marcos. take away the corruption and the plunder, what are the things that he did right? (im not pro-marcos)

    some:

    he created the OPSF
    he created Petron
    he pushed for the BNPP (more than 20 years later, where’s the earthquake in that area?)
    he adopted the parliamentary form of government

    i think one of the biggest shortcomings of the 1987 Constitution is that it is essentially just a reaction to anything Marcos. The Supreme Court was weak during Macoy? Now the Supreme Court can intrude even in economic and policy issues.
