National embrace

It’s marvelous that the moment word was out that he’d passed away, the radio stations marked his passing by playing this song, and the country paused to pay tribute the best way it could -with his own music, so much a part of our lives.

A Free Mind was his blog. Tributes by Life: BLIPS Network, An Apple A Day, tonyocruz, and many, many more…

  1. I was watching Eat Bulaga while thinking of what to blog about when Vic announced it. Immediately I tried to capture what I can from my internal TV.

  2. I also thought it was wonderful of the radio stations to play Francis M.’s songs to pay tribute to the man who over the years has inspired us with his music, and his life.

    Rest in peace, Francis M.

  3. God Bless your soul Master Rapper…

God Bless to the Magalona Family…our condolences..

  4. It was so saddening to hear the news of Francis’ passing. But as St. Paul says, Kiko fought the good fight and kept the faith, and I know he has received his heavenly reward.

He will be missed, so very much.

  5. Farewell to the man who lived life well, who’s music impacted so many hearts, so many lives…I particularly liked his Kaleidoscope World…

  6. So many faces, so many races
    Different voices, different choices
Some are mad, while others laugh
Some live alone with no better half
    Others grieve while others curse
And others mourn behind a big black hearse
Some are pure and some half-bred
Some are sober and some are wasted
Some are rich because of fate and
Some are poor with no food on their plate
Some stand out while others blend
Some are fat and stout while some are thin
Some are friends and some are foes
Some have some while some have most

    Every color and every hue
Is represented by me and you
Take a slide in the slope
Take a look in the kaleidoscope
    Spinnin’ round, make it twirl
    In this kaleidoscope world

Some are great and some are few
Others lie while some tell the truth
Some say poems and some do sing
Others sing through their guitar strings
Some know it all while some act dumb
Let the bassline strum to the bang of the drum
Some can swim while some will sink
And some will find their minds and think
    Others walk while others run
You can’t talk peace and have a gun
Some are hurt and start to cry
Don’t ask me how don’t ask me why
Some are friends and some are foes
Some have some while some have most

    Every color and every hue
Is represented by me and you
Take a slide in the slope
Take a look in the kaleidoscope
    Spinnin’ round, make it twirl
    In this kaleidoscope world

  7. Here’s something to remember the “Man From Manila” by.. It’s one of his lesser-known songs, but quality-wise, it’s right up there with “Ito Ang Gusto Ko,” “Kabataan Para Sa Kinabukasan,” and “Kaleidoscope World.” The song is “1-800-NINETY SIX” (or 1896.. clever, huh) from his 1996 album, Happy Battle. It could not have been written at a more appropriate time.

Just read the lyrics below, and you’ll see what I’m talking about. And while you’re at it, listen to the song through youtube.. and enjoy that funky beat behind the wicked bass lines and tight guitar riffs!!

    1-800-NINETY-SIX
    Francis Magalona feat. Hardware Syndrome
from the album “Happy Battle” (1996)

    Dila’y pinuputol pag ika’y nagsasalita..

Tulad ni Rizal na panulat ang pinairal
Si Andres ay pinatay ng kanyang mga kakulay

    “Yo hablo español?”
    “Si, señor, coño
Ako po ay isang mestizong indio po”

“You a friend of Uncle Sam?”
    “Yo! my man, I am
I don’t speak Tagalog, but I try to understand”

    “Piripino ka ba?”
    “Banzai! Shinjimai!
    Dorobo kedo moto oto kumai”

    CHORUS:

    Dugo’y inialay para sa bayan
    Sayang naman ang kanilang pinaglabanan
    Dugo’y bumaha at naging pataba
Bulok ang bunga, tumulo ang luha

    Dugo’y inialay para sa bayan
    Sayang naman ang kanilang pinaglabanan
    Dugo’y bumaha at naging pataba

    [repeat chorus]

    [instrumentals]

    Dugo’y inialay para sa bayan
    Sayang naman ang kanilang pinaglabanan
    Dugo’y bumaha at naging pataba
Tumulo ang luha, bulok ang bunga

    Dugo’y inialay para sa bayan
    Sayang naman ang kanilang pinaglabanan
    Dugo’y bumaha at naging pataba
Bulok ang bunga, tumulo ang luha

    [repeat chorus]

  8. Would it be nice even ifyou can feature those awardees of the presidential medal of merit in your tv shows and news article? those who are still living and perhaps see what they have done so far, as of this date, if they have improved or not? most particularly those who are not so popular as Francis M and Manny Paquiao so you can at least give some importance to those who are so meek but have done something equally important and valuable for the country, not so sensationalized by the media though THANKS

  9. Today is the 40th day since Francis M passed away. I’m giving him a little Freeman tribute at my site. Please drop by. Thanks.
